4 Signs Your Ductless HVAC Needs Professional Attention

If you have a ductless mini split, you want to be very aware of any potential problems. All of the components inside of a mini split unit are much smaller than they would be in a larger central unit. Problems can worsen faster, making it increasingly important to be able to identify the early signs of a repair needs.

You can keep reading to learn more about four signs that can indicate your ductless AC needs a repair appointment. Then give our team a call to schedule your ductless AC repair in Grosse Pointe, MI. Even if you’re not exactly sure what’s wrong, our team can figure it out, fix the problem, and take steps to prevent it from happening again in the future.

Water Leaks

Leaks are fairly common with ductless mini split units. The unit has to remove humidity from the air, but the condensate drain lines are fairly small. Dust and dirt getting into the lines can cause a clog much faster than in a central unit.

If you notice a leak coming from your mini split, you need to call for service. We can help to clear away a clog in your unit and then offer guidance on how often you should be rinsing out the condensate drain line to keep it clog free.

Unusual Sounds

Ductless mini splits are known for being very quiet when they operate. In fact, experts compare the sound of a mini split to that of a person breathing. Except, a ductless mini split is even quieter. This means that any unusual noises should be treated as a red flag that something is wrong with the unit.

When you give us a call for service, you can describe the sound that you heard, which will help us to know what is wrong with the unit. There may be steps you can take on your own to resolve the problem, or we may have to visit your home and take care of it.

Bad Odors

The air coming out of your ductless mini split should never have a bad odor. If it does, something is wrong with the unit. A musty odor could indicate mold growth. A burning smell can indicate that something inside of the unit is overheating.

In either scenario, we encourage you to turn your ductless mini split unit off completely and allow it to rest until we can take a look and get down to the root cause of the problem. Allowing it to continue on will either push mold spores into your home or risk your ductless mini split stopping working completely.

Lack of Airflow

When you hold your hand up to any of the ductless mini split units across your home, you should feel a steady stream of air during operation. If you don’t, then something is wrong with the airflow coming out of your unit. You can open the front of the unit yourself to check on the air filter to make sure it’s clean. This is a common cause of poor airflow. Clean out the filter and see if that solves the problem. If not, you may need to invest in professional service.
